Just send us an email, and we will add you to the list.
The main focus of the course is the hands-on experience of learning and singing a four-part a cappella arrangement of "Weather With You" by Crowded House. Along the way, you'll also learn some foundational vocal production skills, including:
Sing, learn, perform!
In the final week you will have the opportunity to perform the song we have learned with the whole chorus in a mini-concert in front of invited family and friends.
Do I need to be able to read music?
No. While the ability to read music is helpful, it is not necessary to complete the course successfully. We will provide good quality audio learning tracks along with the sheet music to help everyone efficiently learn the song. Once you have registered, we will send you a link to these resources.
Beaumaris Community Centre
66 Constellation Drive, Ocean Reef
This is the location for all but one session, which is noted below in the schedule.
Preaparation
We will provide you with the sheet music, learning tracks, and a guide before your first session.
While it's not mandatory, it's a good idea to start familiarising yourself with the song at this stage.
Additionally, you will want to start thinking about the voice part you'd like to sing — there are four options! If you're already aware of your vocal range from previous singing experience, great. If not, listening to and singing along with the learning tracks will help you determine your range.
Course Schedule
The course runs from July 23 to September 3, with seven consecutive weekly sessions on Tuesday nights. Each session starts at 7:00 pm and concludes at 8:45 pm.
We are a women's a cappella chorus that has been making music in Ocean Reef, a north-western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, since 2013. Proud members of Sweet Adelines International, a global singing organisation comprising over 20,000 women dedicated to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance, we strive to excel in our musical endeavours. While our primary goal is to sing and perform, we also cherish the wonderful friendships we form along the way.
The course will be led by Adrian Gimpel, the Musical Director of Indian Blue Chorus. With over 20 years of experience in performing with, leading, and coaching a diverse range of a cappella ensembles, both large and small, Adrian brings a wealth of expertise to the role. He is a winner of multiple national gold medals with Barbershop Harmony Australia and has represented Australia on the international stage several times. Adrian's greatest motivation as a chorus Director is to help individuals discover and develop their singing voices.
